DIY YouTuber Thomas Kim has shown how a USB stick can be used to kill a computer, as reported by The Next Web<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0$49 version of the device is on sale, which plugs into a PC and “fires a surge of power” through the computer’s motherboard – which is susceptible if not properly insulated.<\/p>\n

Kim’s video shows that it is not difficult to create a similar device by combining camera flash parts with an AA battery.<\/p>\n

“The device delivers 300 volts when plugged into an unsuspecting computer. It\u2019s effectively the same as a power surge, but the difference is that most power supplies have protection against those,” stated the report.<\/p>\n

“USB buses often can\u2019t offer the same kind of resistance, and consequently relay the energy to the rest of the computer, instantly killing it.”<\/p>\n
