{"id":187975,"date":"2016-11-18T09:56:05","date_gmt":"2016-11-18T07:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=187975"},"modified":"2016-11-18T09:57:15","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T07:57:15","slug":"ipv4-vs-ipv6-performance-comparison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/187975-ipv4-vs-ipv6-performance-comparison.html","title":{"rendered":"IPv4 vs IPv6 &#8211; Performance comparison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sucuri has published <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sucuri.net\/2016\/11\/ipv4-vs-ipv6-performance-comparison-part-2.html\" target=\"_blank\">the results<\/a><\/strong> of performance tests it conducted to compare the response time of websites over\u00a0IPv4 and IPv6.<\/p>\n<p>It ran\u00a01,000 tests at\u00a0six locations &#8211; four in the US, two in the UK &#8211; with each location\u00a0tested with 22 domains. 264,000 tests were conducted in total.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We selected the top sites that support both IPv4 and IPv6 from multiple locations to identify which one performs better,&#8221; said Sucuri.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We used the curl utility to collect data for connect time and total time, as these metrics represent what users notice as part of their browsing experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To account for different sources of variability, it\u00a0used\u00a0a mixed-effects model.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">IPv4 is faster<\/h3>\n<p>Sucuri said the tests proved IPv4 is slightly faster than IPv6.<\/p>\n<p>However, the location can affect the speed of IPv4 and IPv6.<\/p>\n<p>The differences\u00a0are small, fractions of a second, which does not mean much for human browsing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One interesting conclusion is that IPv6 seems to be slightly less stable compared to IPv4.
