{"id":18835,"date":"2011-03-03T23:48:00","date_gmt":"2011-03-03T21:48:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-03-03T23:48:00","modified_gmt":"2011-03-03T21:48:00","slug":"cell-c-gauteng-hspa-network-upgraded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/18835-cell-c-gauteng-hspa-network-upgraded.html","title":{"rendered":"Cell C Gauteng HSPA+ network upgraded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cell C subscribers were informed on Wednesday that between the hours of midnight and 6AM on 3 March 2011 the company would be doing important upgrades and maintenance on five high traffic radio network controllers in the Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg areas.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There will also be software upgrades of certain 3G base stations to fix certain noted customer issues on the black Huawei Cell C modems,&rdquo; the company announced.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C CTO <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/265143-Ron-Reddick\">Ron Reddick<\/a> explained yesterday that several things have been creating some issues in the Gauteng region, and that while they have addressed a major issue a few weeks back with some links it &lsquo;was not the base of the problem&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We have continued the investigations with our vendor and we have identified a bug in the Base Station software when interacting with Release 7 devices (the new high speed devices) such as our 5GB Black Dongle, and some of the newest generation Handsets,&rdquo; said Reddick.<\/p>\n<p>This bug caused the Base Station to interpret certain types of messages used to setup the connection incorrectly, putting the Base Station into a slumber state with very low throughput and connection problems.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As more users attempted connections after this first event the Base Station&rsquo;s performance would decline rapidly until it was totally locked,&rdquo; explained Reddick.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;A patch was developed for this by our vendor and installed in the GP region last night [2 March], this should solve a majority of the issues recorded but we are continuing our quest to ensure network coverage nationwide is back to super wooosh speeds,&rdquo; said Reddick.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/316169-Cell-C-s-HSPA-network-upgraded-in-Gauteng\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Cell C Gauteng HSPA+ network upgraded\">Cell C Gauteng HSPA+ network upgraded<\/a> <\/strong>&lt;&lt; Comments and views<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cell C addresses problem with 21Mbps HSPA+ modems on the network through base station software upgrades<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-18835","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cellular"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18835"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18835"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18835\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18835"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18835"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18835"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
