A massive Mirai botnet, which promises over 400,000 bots which can carry out DDoS attacks, is for rent on the Internet.<\/p>\n
Akamai\u2019s Q3 2016 State of the Internet Security Report showed that a Mirai botnet was behind the biggest DDoS attacks ever observed by the company \u2013 623Gbps and 555Gbps.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese attacks were remarkable not only for their size, but also for the source and nature of the traffic they used,\u201d said Akamai.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince June, we had been researching a strain of malware we called Kaiten, which targets home routers and Internet of Things devices.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe malware has now been released to the world at large, under the name Mirai, and targets more than 60 default username and password combinations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The source code for the Mirai botnet was made available online, which has resulted in the “Mirai DDoS botnet for hire”.<\/p>\n
