{"id":189686,"date":"2016-11-29T10:40:32","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T08:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=189686"},"modified":"2016-11-29T10:41:45","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T08:41:45","slug":"internet-outage-blamed-on-botched-botnet-hack-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/189686-internet-outage-blamed-on-botched-botnet-hack-in-germany.html","title":{"rendered":"Internet outage blamed on botched botnet hack in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An attempt to hack\u00a0the routers of Deutsche Telekom (DT) subscribers left around 900,000 customers without Internet access this weekend, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/internet-outage-in-germany-blamed-on-failed-botnet-attack\" target=\"_blank\">CNET reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>DT said there was a global attack on\u00a0maintenance interfaces, which was confirmed by the Federal Office for Information Security.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The attack attempted to infect routers with a malware, but failed, which caused crashes or restrictions for 4-5%\u00a0of all routers,&#8221; said DT.<\/p>\n<p>Its network was not affected, it added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We implemented a series of filter measures to our network.
