{"id":18981,"date":"2011-03-09T21:07:00","date_gmt":"2011-03-09T19:07:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-03-09T21:07:00","modified_gmt":"2011-03-09T19:07:00","slug":"another-uncapped-adsl-provider-bites-the-dust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/18981-another-uncapped-adsl-provider-bites-the-dust.html","title":{"rendered":"Another uncapped ADSL provider bites the dust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Internet Service Provider <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/10622-Uncapped-ADSL-for-R300.html\">DigiChilli surprised the market<\/a> in November 2009 when they launched an uncapped ADSL service for R300 per month &ndash; well below the usual pricing at the time.<\/p>\n<p>DigiChilli launched three uncapped offerings in 2009: 256Kbps, 512Kbps and 1024Kbps uncapped accounts priced at R500, R1000 and R3000 per month respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The company enjoyed a fair amount of market exposure after its launch, but MWEB&rsquo;s affordable uncapped ADSL services which were launched in March 2010 essentially removed DigiChilli&rsquo;s value proposition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DigiChilli taken over by BCS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/11819.html\">MWEB&rsquo;s uncapped ADSL products launched<\/a>, DigiChilli fell off the radar, and it is understood that the company started to struggle financially.<\/p>\n<p>This follows <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/12677-Uncapped-ADSL-price-war-claims-first-big-victim.html\">Screamer Telecom&rsquo;s exit of the uncapped ADSL<\/a> market shortly after MWEB launched their new offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Former DigiChilli MD Dave Welmans told MyBroadband this week that &ldquo;BCS Group owned DigiChilli and I launched it as a project within their group. I am no longer consulting to them,&rdquo; said Welmans.<\/p>\n<p>However, BCS Group Chief Operating Officer Willie Olivier explained that BCS assisted DigiChilli with their network requirements and funding, but that DigiChilli was a separate entity. Olivier added that BCS took over DigiChilli in February when it was clear that the company was struggling.<\/p>\n<p>BCS is currently still servicing the existing DigiChilli clients, but it is not entirely certain what will happen with the DigiChilli brand in future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Big broadband strategy from BCS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Olivier said that BCS is currently investing heavily in their consumer broadband strategy &#8211; which will be unveiled in the next few months.
