The “programming language of all programming languages” – C – is in decline, according to programming language indexes.<\/p>\n

The Tiobe Index<\/strong><\/a> and the PYPL Index<\/strong><\/a> both show that C has dropped in popularity from December 2015 to December 2016.<\/p>\n

“The language was in a range of 15%-20% for more than 15 years and this year it suddenly started to suffer,” said Tiobe.<\/p>\n

Tiobe said C is “not a language that you think of while writing programs for popular fields such as mobile apps or websites”.<\/p>\n

“It is not evolving that much and there is no big company promoting the language,” it said.<\/p>\n

The table below shows the most popular programming languages in the world, based on the Tiobe and PYPL indexes, and their change from 2015 to 2016.<\/p>\n

Calculating the rankings<\/h3>\n

PYPL<\/strong> – “The more a language tutorial is searched, the more popular the language is assumed to be. The raw data comes from Google Trends.”<\/p>\n

Tiobe<\/strong> – “The ratings are based on the number of skilled engineers worldwide, courses, and third-party vendors. Popular search engines are also used to calculate the ratings.”<\/p>\n
