{"id":191870,"date":"2016-12-14T15:58:32","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T13:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=191870"},"modified":"2016-12-14T15:59:21","modified_gmt":"2016-12-14T13:59:21","slug":"big-changes-to-afrihost-capped-adsl-packages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/191870-big-changes-to-afrihost-capped-adsl-packages.html","title":{"rendered":"Big changes to Afrihost capped ADSL packages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Afrihost has made significant changes to the capped ADSL packages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afrihost.com\/site\/product\/adsl_capped\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>advertised on its website<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0with capped accounts now available in two flavours.<\/p>\n<p>According to Afrihost&#8217;s website, it now offers clients the choice of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Priority-Boosted Bandwidth packages<\/li>\n<li>Shaped Capped packages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shaped Capped packages give you the &#8220;full data allocation&#8221; as &#8220;potentially-shaped bandwidth&#8221;, while the\u00a0Priority-Boosted Bandwidth packages give you half the data allocation as guaranteed unshaped.<\/p>\n<p>Both options are priced the same.<\/p>\n<p>As an example, a &#8220;normal&#8221; 200GB account is priced at R199. The\u00a0potentially-shaped package gives you the full 200GB at R199. The\u00a0Priority-Boosted Bandwidth package gives you 100GB unshaped for R199.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Capped Data is the last broadband product in the queue for potential shaping. Meaning we first apply shaping to Home Uncapped Packages, then if necessary Premium Uncapped, thereafter Priority Uncapped, and as a last resort Capped Data,&#8221; stated Afrihost.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thus, the likelihood of Capped Data being shaped is extremely low.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The move coincides with Afrihost changing the way its ADSL data caps are advertised, from a &#8220;double data&#8221; amount to a single data allocation. Example: it is no longer &#8220;50GB+50GB&#8221;, but rather 100GB.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">What data is shaped<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Regardless of which option you choose, Realtime Services like Web browsing (HTTP and HTTPS), Live Streaming (YouTube, ShowMax, Netflix), VoIP (Skype), Email, and Terminal services (SSH) will never be throttled or shaped at any given time,&#8221; said Afrihost.<\/p>\n<p>Your connection speed will be as fast as your DSL line allows.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We may sometimes shape Non-Realtime Services during our busiest times.
