{"id":195696,"date":"2017-02-03T12:57:08","date_gmt":"2017-02-03T10:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=195696"},"modified":"2017-02-03T12:58:42","modified_gmt":"2017-02-03T10:58:42","slug":"how-to-play-pc-games-using-a-psvr-headset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gaming\/195696-how-to-play-pc-games-using-a-psvr-headset.html","title":{"rendered":"How to play PC games using a PSVR headset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Virtual reality gaming is an expensive hobby for PC owners, with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive boasting impressive specifications and high prices.<\/p>\n<p>PlayStation owners can purchase the cheaper PlayStation VR headset to enjoy a comparable VR gaming experience, albeit at a lower resolution.<\/p>\n<p>However, because the PlayStation VR uses HDMI and USB cables to connect to the PlayStation 4, it was only a matter of time before gamers managed to get it working on PC.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinusvirtualreality.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trinus VR<\/a><\/strong> is software which allows you to stream PC games to your smartphone, letting you use it as a wearable VR headset.<\/p>\n<p>The team behind this software has released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinusvirtualreality.com\/psvr\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Trinus PSVR<\/strong><\/a>, which lets you connect your PSVR headset to your PC and play SteamVR games.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">What you need<\/h3>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need the following to get PSVR working on your PC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A gaming computer capable of delivering 120FPS at 1080p.<\/li>\n<li>PSVR headset.<\/li>\n<li>Free HDMI and USB 3.0 ports.<\/li>\n<li>Trinus PSVR (Free Trial\/\u20ac8.99 for licence).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The free trial of Trinus PSVR is useful for determining if your system is capable of running VR, but you will need a licence to use the software\u00a0to play games.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Setup<\/h3>\n<p>The hardware setup for using your PSVR on your PC is similar to using the device on your PS4.<\/p>\n<p>The PSVR is powered separately and connects to the PC using a USB 3.0 port and the PS4 HDMI cable.<\/p>\n<p>A second HDMI cable can be used to play the PSVR video feed concurrently on a TV or monitor.<\/p>\n<p>Trinus PSVR has two modes &#8211; Mouse Mode and SteamVR Mode.<\/p>\n<p>Mouse mode allows you to play PC games using your PSVR headset, if the game supports side-by-side (SBS) rendering.<\/p>\n<p>If the game does not support SBS, it can be forced on &#8211; but there will be no 3D depth effect.<\/p>\n<p>SteamVR mode is the preferred option for serious VR gaming and allows you to experience SteamVR games using the PSVR headset.<\/p>\n<p>To set up SteamVR for Trinus:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Install SteamVR<\/li>\n<li>Install the Trinus SteamVR driver<\/li>\n<li>Start Trinus PSVR<\/li>\n<li>Run SteamVR Room Setup<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Motion Controllers and Tracking<\/h3>\n<p>There are a number of SteamVR games which you can play with a standard controller, but many of the titles require movement controllers and head tracking.<\/p>\n<p>Trinus PSVR is still in beta and users should expect to encounter issues and the need for troubleshooting along the way.<\/p>\n<p>This is especially true when attempting to integrate motion controllers and head tracking with PSVR.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to use PlayStation Move controllers with the PSVR on your PC by using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cboulay\/PSMoveService\" target=\"_blank\">PSMoveService<\/a><\/strong> along with a PlayStation Camera.
