{"id":196964,"date":"2017-02-18T08:00:01","date_gmt":"2017-02-18T06:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=196964"},"modified":"2017-02-18T08:06:11","modified_gmt":"2017-02-18T06:06:11","slug":"how-graphics-cards-have-evolved-over-the-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/196964-how-graphics-cards-have-evolved-over-the-years.html","title":{"rendered":"How graphics cards have evolved over the years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Computer hardware is constantly evolving, with components becoming smaller and more powerful.<\/p>\n<p>Graphics card performance has changed a lot over the past 30 years, from only displaying rows of characters to rendering photorealistic scenes in real-time.<\/p>\n<p>The appearance and designs of graphics cards have also experienced radical changes, with manufacturers upgrading PCB components and experimenting with cooling systems.<\/p>\n<p>Many companies attempted to break into the GPU market, but it has historically been dominated by Nvidia and AMD (ATI).<\/p>\n<p>Below is\u00a0a look at how much graphics cards have changed\u00a0over the past three decades.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">1981 &#8211; IBM Monochrome Display Adapter<\/h3>\n<p>While not technically a graphics card, the Monochrome Display Adapter was one of the first display adapters produced.
