{"id":19800,"date":"2011-04-19T11:46:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-19T09:46:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-04-19T11:46:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-19T09:46:00","slug":"seacom-s-new-ip-and-internet-services-explained","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/19800-seacom-s-new-ip-and-internet-services-explained.html","title":{"rendered":"SEACOM\u2019s new IP and Internet services explained"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEACOM yesterday announced that they have moved from a basic  international fibre infrastructure provider (selling STM 1, 4, 16 and 64 IPLC  services) to an IP packet product provider, significantly extending their  product range.<\/p>\n<p>This was made possible by <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/19778-SEACOM-launches-Internet-services-South-Africa.html\">SEACOM&rsquo;s new IP platform<\/a>. &ldquo;The IP  Platform project involves the design, deployment and operation of nine  land-based Internet access points that will store popular web content closer to  where the Internet is accessed,&rdquo; SEACOM explained in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>IP network nodes are already live in Johannesburg, Dar es  Salaam, Maputo, Marseille, Mombasa and Mtunzini, with three more nodes destined  for Nairobi, Uganda and Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>The new IP products from SEACOM may well allow the company  to compete more effectively in a market which now has numerous IPLC  competitors, including SAT-3\/SAFE, EASSy and <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/19792-WACS-lands-South-Africa.html\">soon WACS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s new product range includes IP VPN, Internet, IP  Transit, Ethernet and IPL (International Private Line) offerings which are discussed in more detail below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/seacom_ip_services_862111214.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SEACOM IP Services\" title=\"SEACOM IP Services\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>International Private Line (IPL)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s International Private Line (IPL) service delivers  dedicated, high-speed connectivity between two geographic locations. IPL is the  original standard of global connectivity delivered across an SDH backbone, to  provide customers with services in multiples of STM-1, 4, 16 and 64.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ethernet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s Ethernet service is available on the SEACOM MPLS  platform and delivered across its African, European, and Asian networks.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s Ethernet service connectivity ranges from 30 Mbps  to 10 Gbps. This product enables customers to create their own managed  infrastructure based on Ethernet over MPLS technology.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/seacom_ethernet_544596018.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SEACOM Ethernet\" title=\"SEACOM Ethernet\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>IP Transit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s IP Transit service operates over a native IPv4 \/ IPv6 IP  network.&nbsp; IP Transit from SEACOM is an IP service for customers with their  own Autonomous System Number (ASN) and provider independent block of IP  addresses. The IP Transit service advertises routes to all Internet  destinations via access points in Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s IP Transit is available from 30 Mbps to 10 Gbps Ethernet, allows  bandwidth bursting, has caching services available and protects against DDoS  attacks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/seacom_ip_transit_493959465.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SEACOM IP Transit\" title=\"SEACOM IP Transit\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Internet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s Internet service gives customers direct access to the Internet via  the company&rsquo;s IPv4 \/ IPv6 IP network.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM also offers Distributed Denial of  Service (DDoS) protection, ensuring high network availability and enhanced user  experience by protecting content from malicious attacks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/seacom_internet_855268021.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SEACOM Internet\" title=\"SEACOM Internet\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>IP VPN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s IP Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) service is  specifically designed to deliver an efficient, scalable and reliable way of  connecting together customer sites no matter where they are located.<\/p>\n<p>Based on MPLS technology this service is available across  SEACOM&rsquo;s complete network. Through connectivity partners, SEACOM&rsquo;s IP VPN  service can be delivered on a worldwide basis.
