In May last year On Digital Media (ODM) launched their first TopTV services, and to attract customers the company launched an all-inclusive promotional offer for its decoder, dish and installation for R499.<\/p>\n
MultiChoice reacted to TopTV’s promotion with its own DStv decoder, dish and installation package, priced at R649. <\/p>\n
At the time MultiChoice warned that it was only a promotional special, and that the price would only hold whilst stocks lasted.<\/p>\n
Since May last year things have only gotten better for consumers. Both DStv and TopTV are still offering their promotional decoder package with the only difference being that the prices are now far lower than a year ago.<\/p>\n
Game and Hi-Fi Corporation are now advertising the TopTV decoder package at R199, well below the launch price of R499.<\/p>\n
Game is selling DStv’s single view decoder bundle at R479 while Hi-Fi Corporation is retailing the same product for R499. <\/p>\n
It is however not only entry level decoders which saw significant price cuts. When MultiChoice announced their more affordable HD PVR in mid-2010 it was priced at R1,999 – but since then prices have decreased significantly. <\/p>\n
Game is now offering the DStv HD PVR decoder at R1,299 while the same device is available at Hi-Fi Corporation for R1,399. Makro is charging R1,499 for the device.<\/p>\n
