{"id":199736,"date":"2017-02-22T08:00:46","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T06:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=199736"},"modified":"2017-02-22T08:04:01","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T06:04:01","slug":"netflix-launches-stethoscope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/199736-netflix-launches-stethoscope.html","title":{"rendered":"Netflix launches Stethoscope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix has launched\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/techblog.netflix.com\/2017\/02\/introducing-netflix-stethoscope.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Stethoscope<\/strong><\/a>, its first project &#8220;following a User Focused Security approach&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Stethoscope is a web application that collects information for a user\u2019s devices and gives them &#8220;clear and specific recommendations for securing their systems&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we provide employees with focused, actionable information and low-friction tools, we believe they can get their devices into a more secure state without heavy-handed policy enforcement,&#8221; said Netflix.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it tracks the\u00a0following device configurations, which it calls\u00a0\u201cpractices\u201d.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Disk encryption<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Firewall<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Automatic updates<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Up-to-date OS\/software<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Screen lock<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Not jailbroken\/rooted<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Security software stack<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Each practice is given a rating that determines how important it is.
