Speaking at the company’s recent interim results presentation Telkom CEO Reuben September said that they are planning to increase ADSL peak speeds from the current 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps by 2011.<\/p>\n
The company is further planning to achieve a 15-20% ADSL penetration rate of fixed access lines by 2011. Telkom announced that it has already increased its ADSL footprint to 2 501 DSLAMs and added that there was a 76.2% growth in ADSL subscriptions from Sept 2006 to Sept 2007.<\/p>\n
The Telkom CEO pointed out that they are on target to reach 420 000 ADSL users by March 2008. This growth is helped along by the ADSL self-install option which was used by 59% of all new ADSL customers.<\/p>\n
Converged services<\/strong><\/p>\n Telkom is planning fully converged services where the current stand alone access, voice and Internet value propositions will make way for ‘integrated communication and entertainment’ services.<\/p>\n The company is further planning to bring interactive IPTV and HDTV offerings to the market through its subsidiary Telkom Media.<\/p>\n September pointed out that simplicity of use – plug and play broadband in a box – forms an integral part of the company’s strategy to improve its broadband offerings.<\/p>\n
