{"id":201220,"date":"2017-03-03T13:14:18","date_gmt":"2017-03-03T11:14:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=201220"},"modified":"2017-03-03T13:15:39","modified_gmt":"2017-03-03T11:15:39","slug":"skype-for-linux-beta-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/201220-skype-for-linux-beta-now-available.html","title":{"rendered":"Skype for Linux &#8211; Beta now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.skype.com\/news\/2017\/03\/01\/the-skype-for-linux-beta-version-5-0-is-now-available-for-download\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Skype for Linux has moved<\/strong><\/a> from Alpha to Beta, and includes features which make the service easier to use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been focused on building a new experience that is in line with Skype\u2019s ongoing transition from peer-to-peer to a modern cloud architecture,\u201d said the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to create a Linux version of Skype that is as feature rich as the existing Skype.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Skype for Linux update includes performance improvements and many requests from the Linux community:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Calling updates\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Calls to mobiles and landlines with Skype credit can be made from Linux to Skype users on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Better collaboration\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Linux users can view shared screens from other Skype desktop clients (Windows and Mac).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usability improvements\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Unity launcher shows the number of unread conversations.
