Samsung unveiled the estimated retail pricing and availability of their new Android tablets and Galaxy S2 smartphone at the Samsung Africa Forum in Kenya today.<\/p>\n

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch and the new version of the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab were set for a US release<\/a> on 8 June 2011 and according to Samsung South Africa should be receiving the devices in the weeks thereafter. These launch dates are for the Wi-Fi only models of the devices.<\/p>\n

According to Samsung they are aiming to bring the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to South Africa during July 2011 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch four to six weeks after that.<\/p>\n

Samsung provided indicative retail pricing for the devices, but added the caveat that the prices disclosed are what they’re aiming to come to market with and shouldn’t be considered confirmed as they may change due to exchange rates fluctuations or other circumstances.<\/p>\n

The 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is set to come in at R5,499, a slightly higher price than the 32GB Wi-Fi only iPad 2. Similarly, the 32GB Galaxy Tab 10.1 will cost R100 more than the 64GB Wi-Fi only iPad 2 at R6,499.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 include a microSD card slot that allows the storage space on the device to be expanded by up to 32GB.<\/p>\n

The 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 has an estimated price of R5,299, with the 32GB model set to launch for R6,299.<\/p>\n

Samsung is also planning on bringing the Galaxy S2 Android smartphone to South Africa for an estimated retail price of R6,699 in the first week of July 2011.<\/p>\n

However, they have warned that there might be delays that push back the launch of the device until mid-July 2011.<\/p>\n
