{"id":20328,"date":"2011-05-17T10:22:00","date_gmt":"2011-05-17T08:22:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-05-17T10:22:00","modified_gmt":"2011-05-17T08:22:00","slug":"android-smartphone-for-under-r1000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gadgets\/20328-android-smartphone-for-under-r1000.html","title":{"rendered":"Android smartphone for under R1000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a> revealed that they will launch the recently announced Vodafone branded Android smartphone, Vodafone 858 Smart, for under R1,000 in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Vodacom will launch the [Vodafone Smartphone] 858 early June [2011],&rdquo; said <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/220644-Portia-Maurice\">Portia Maurice<\/a>, chief officer of corporate affairs at Vodacom, adding that the indicative retail price of the device is R999 at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>Vodafone announced on 16 May 2011 that the Vodafone Smart will be available &ldquo;across the Vodafone footprint by early summer&rdquo; and that Germany, Italy and the UK will be among the first to sell the device for around &euro;90.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press statement, the Vodafone Smart will be rolled out in a range of colours and users will be able to create their own once-off covers on the web.<\/p>\n<p>The device will run version 2.2 of Google&#8217;s Android operating system (codenamed &ldquo;Froyo&rdquo;) and will include Google&#8217;s full suite of applications: Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps and Google Talk.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"left_image\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/thumbnail\/gadgets\/Vodafone_858_Smart_FrontViewRight.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Vodafone 858 Smart\" title=\"Vodafone 858 Smart\" \/>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vodafone.com\/content\/index\/about\/what\/devices\/vodafone_smart.html#specifications\" target=\"_blank\">device specifications<\/a>, the Vodafone 858 Smart will sport a 2.8-inch QVGA (240&#215;320) capacitive touch display, 3.6 Mbps HSPA and quad band GSM.<\/p>\n<p>It includes all the features you would expect on a smartphone, such as a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Assisted GPS, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor.
