{"id":203804,"date":"2017-03-22T14:03:34","date_gmt":"2017-03-22T12:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=203804"},"modified":"2017-03-22T14:04:56","modified_gmt":"2017-03-22T12:04:56","slug":"microsoft-edge-gets-pwned-google-chrome-is-unhackable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/203804-microsoft-edge-gets-pwned-google-chrome-is-unhackable.html","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Edge gets pwned, Google Chrome is &#8220;unhackable&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft Edge took\u00a0a beating at the recent\u00a0Pwn2Own 2017 hacking contest, according to a report by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/news\/pwn2own-2017-microsoft-edge-hacked,33940.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Tom&#8217;s Hardware<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event saw security teams trying to exploit web browsers and operating systems through vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that Edge was hacked five times at the event, while Chrome was &#8220;unhackable&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Security teams which penetrated Edge used, among other things, &#8220;an arbitrary write in the Chakra JavaScript engine&#8221; and &#8220;a use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in Chakra&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Teams were tasked with exploiting a browser using\u00a0zero-day vulnerabilities that are unknown to the vendor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most impressive exploit by far was a virtual machine escape through an Edge flaw.
