{"id":204140,"date":"2017-03-24T14:39:26","date_gmt":"2017-03-24T12:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=204140"},"modified":"2017-03-24T14:41:58","modified_gmt":"2017-03-24T12:41:58","slug":"google-hangouts-killing-sms-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/204140-google-hangouts-killing-sms-support.html","title":{"rendered":"Google Hangouts killing SMS support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Android\/comments\/615rmw\/just_got_an_update_email_from_google_no_more\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Google has announced<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0it will remove carrier SMS text messaging from Hangouts on Android after 22 May.<\/p>\n<p>Google said\u00a0voice numbers will continue to be supported after 22 May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis change only applies to SMS text messages sent and received from carrier phone numbers,\u201d said Google.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it will prepare users for this change by showing an in-app message from\u00a027 March.<\/p>\n<p>Hangouts users will be prompted to choose another default messaging app already installed on their phone.<\/p>\n<p>If none exist, they will be directed to the Google Play store to find a new SMS messaging app.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChoosing a new messaging app will not impact existing SMS messages.
