<\/a><\/p>\nFor years, I had to look with envy at international broadband subscribers enjoying great fibre\u00a0speeds – but this\u00a0changed today.<\/p>\n
This week, Openserve installed a 100Mbps fibre-to-the-home connection at my\u00a0house, and the performance is excellent.<\/p>\n
Armed with an uncapped 100Mbps account from Afrihost, I am getting download speeds close to 100Mbps and upload speeds of just under 50Mbps.<\/p>\n
This is an order of magnitude better than the 10Mbps ADSL connection which I had been using for years.<\/p>\n
While our residential ADSL service was not bad, the speed, latency, and stability of our new fibre-to-the-home service is at another level.<\/p>\n
The higher speeds and lower latency significantly improve the downloading of large files, streaming media, and online gaming – especially in a multi-user environment.<\/p>\n
To ensure I can enjoy the higher speeds throughout the house, I upgraded our LAN using gigabit powerline equipment.<\/p>\n
For the first time in 14\u00a0years, I am completely happy with my Internet connection.<\/p>\n
I am glad this day has finally arrived for me, in 2017, and I hope affordable fibre-to-the-home will come to many more\u00a0neighbourhoods around the country.<\/p>\n
