{"id":209856,"date":"2017-05-09T11:34:54","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T09:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=209856"},"modified":"2017-05-09T11:37:02","modified_gmt":"2017-05-09T09:37:02","slug":"pepe-the-frog-is-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/trending\/209856-pepe-the-frog-is-dead.html","title":{"rendered":"Pepe the Frog is dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pepe the Frog has been killed off by its creator, as reported by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2017\/may\/08\/pepe-the-frog-creator-kills-off-internet-meme-co-opted-by-white-supremacists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Guardian<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that\u00a0Matt Furie created the image\u00a0as part of his \u201cBoy\u2019s Club\u201d series on MySpace in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Pepe became a popular meme, and was adopted by the &#8220;alt-right&#8221; in the build-up to the 2016 US presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2016, Hillary Clinton said\u00a0Pepe the Frog was &#8220;a racist hate symbol&#8221;.
