A fight between Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip and his deputy Mongameli Bobani has resulted in a criminal case being opened against the DA leader.

Bobani claims that Trollip hired a company to “hack” the municipality’s security system, according to a report by the Sunday Times.

The report states that the Hawks are investigating the allegations, which also involves municipal manager Johan Mentler.

Mentler allegedly authorised the appointment of Deltron Consulting to “hack the municipal server”, which Bobani said puts employee information at risk.

The report stated that Deltron Consulting was appointed after the company which partially installed the municipal security system and fibre lines, Afrisec, was forced to abort the project.

This left equipment and systems unused, and in 2016 the DA asked Afrisec to hand over the municipality’s electronic file management system when its contract ended.

Deltron was then appointed to hack the system, stated the Sunday Times, which reportedly led to the “collapse of the municipality’s ICT system”.

This included security, biometric access, and surveillance systems. Trollip has denied the allegations.

Trollip has made waves since his appointment as mayor – including the launch of an anti-corruption hotline shortly after he took office, which resulted in multiple internal investigations.

A fight between Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip and his deputy Mongameli Bobani has resulted in a criminal case being opened.

[27
8999,35
post-210592","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-security","tag-da","tag-headline
Now read: Global cyber ransom attack spreads to South Africa
