The recent Sunday Times South African Rich List shows who the many billionaires and multi-Millionaires in the local telecoms arena are. <\/p>\n
The Rich List is lead by non-telecoms tycoons Lakshmi Mittal from Mittal Steel owning investments worth over R 27-Billion, Nicky Oppenheimer with investments in Anglo America of over R 16-Billion and Patrice Motsepe with R 13.5-Billion in investments.<\/p>\n
Telecoms<\/strong><\/p>\n The Elephant Consortium, lead by former director-general of the Department of Communications Andile Ngcaba, owns R 5.058 Billion in Telkom investments.<\/p>\n MTN accounted for all four individual Billionaires on the rich list. MTN CEO Phuthuma Nhleko is leading the telecoms ‘Rich List’ at number 16 with MTN investments to the value of R 1.606 Billion. <\/p>\n He is followed by fellow MTN Group Finance Director Rob Nisbet at number 22 with R 1.193 Billion, Non-Executive Director Irene Charnley at number 25 with a cool R 1.134 Billion and MTN Chief Operating Officer Sifiso Dabengwa at number 26 on R 1.133 Billion. <\/p>\n MTN’s Marketing Executive Santie Botha, placed 95 th, is also not doing too badly with investments amounting to R 236 Million.<\/p>\n Vox Telecom’s CEO, Douglas Reed, the man who grew the company from a small ISP to a R 2-Billion telecoms firm, is number 125 on the rich list with an investment value of R 173 Million.<\/p>\n Various IT businessmen also feature on the rich list, including Bill Venter from Allied and Bytes fame at number 6 with R 4 255-Billion and Jens Montanana from Datatec with R 411-Million.<\/p>\n
