{"id":213530,"date":"2017-06-07T15:25:31","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T13:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=213530"},"modified":"2017-06-07T15:26:55","modified_gmt":"2017-06-07T13:26:55","slug":"this-simple-graph-shows-mobile-datas-incredible-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/213530-this-simple-graph-shows-mobile-datas-incredible-growth.html","title":{"rendered":"This simple graph shows mobile data&#8217;s incredible growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Akamai\u2019s Q1 2017\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.akamai.com\/us\/en\/about\/news\/press\/2017-press\/akamai-releases-first-quarter-2017-state-of-the-internet-connectivity-report.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>State of the Internet report<\/strong><\/a> shows huge growth in mobile data traffic over the past few years, while voice traffic growth is almost flat.<\/p>\n<p>The report uses insight from mobile vendor Ericsson, which has a presence in over 180 countries and a customer base representing more than 1,000 networks.<\/p>\n<p>World total mobile traffic on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks &#8211; not including DHB-H, Wi-Fi, and Mobile WiMAX &#8211; is calculated.<\/p>\n<p>Mobile data traffic has continued to grow, driven by increased smartphone subscriptions and a continued increase in data use\u00a0per subscription.<\/p>\n<p>In Q1 2017, data traffic grew nearly 12% quarter-over-quarter and nearly 70% year-over-year.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the five-year period in the chart below, cumulative voice traffic growth was 28%.
