{"id":216852,"date":"2017-07-01T12:29:38","date_gmt":"2017-07-01T10:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=216852"},"modified":"2017-07-01T12:30:36","modified_gmt":"2017-07-01T10:30:36","slug":"most-powerful-supercomputers-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/216852-most-powerful-supercomputers-in-the-world.html","title":{"rendered":"Most powerful supercomputers in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top500.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>TOP500<\/strong><\/a> has released its ranking of the world\u2019s most powerful supercomputers, based on the Linpack benchmark.<\/p>\n<p>The benchmark is a measure of a system&#8217;s computing power &#8211; how fast a computer solves &#8220;a dense n by n system of linear equations Ax = b&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A good personal computer has a performance of around 100 gigaflops. The top supercomputers offer petaflops of computing power (1 petaflop = 1,000,000 gigaflops).<\/p>\n<p>The Sunway TaihuLight, a system developed by China\u2019s National Research Center of Parallel Computer Engineering &amp; Technology and installed at the National Supercomputer Center, took top spot.<\/p>\n<p>With a Linpack performance of 93 petaflops, TaihuLight is easily the most powerful number-cruncher on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>The top 10 systems in the ranking are detailed below.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">1.
