{"id":217584,"date":"2017-06-29T13:31:06","date_gmt":"2017-06-29T11:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=217584"},"modified":"2017-06-29T13:32:30","modified_gmt":"2017-06-29T11:32:30","slug":"dstv-now-hd-streaming-imminent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/217584-dstv-now-hd-streaming-imminent.html","title":{"rendered":"DStv Now HD streaming imminent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DStv Now HD streaming is imminent, and there is a strong focus on providing sports streaming in high definition.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to Graeme Cumming, head of digital media at MultiChoice.<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice launched its DStv Now mobile application for Android and iOS at the end of 2014.<\/p>\n<p>At launch,<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/114127-dstv-now-mobile-application-with-live-streaming-unveiled.html\"> <strong>DStv Now offered<\/strong><\/a> DStv Premium subscribers with PVR access, the ability to watch DStv Catch Up content on their mobile devices, and the ability to stream around 20 channels live over the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>Sports channels, M-Net, and M-Net movie channels were available to stream through DStv Now.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the service has improved significantly, and now offers 80 live streaming channels and around 2,500 hours of Catch Up content.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few months, MultiChoice has also <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/212232-dstv-now-streaming-coming-to-more-customers.html\"><strong>made DStv Now available<\/strong><\/a> to more subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>In May, MultiChoice opened the service to DStv Compact and Extra customers.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">HD streaming<\/h3>\n<p>As a mobile-first service at launch, DStv Now has only offered SD streaming.<\/p>\n<p>This will change in the near future, however, with MultiChoice planning to launch HD streaming on the platform.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/techcentral.co.za\/dstvs-graeme-cumming-future-tv\/75352\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Speaking to TechCentral<\/strong><\/a>, Cumming said they are working to improve the streaming quality and want to get the resolution up to HD soon.<\/p>\n<p>He said the resolution of content is rights dependent, and they are currently in discussions with suppliers to get HD content cleared.<\/p>\n<p>The initial focus is on increasing the quality of the sports channels, which are the most popular on the DStv streaming service.<\/p>\n<p>Cumming said that while it is not a technical challenge to move to HD, there are bandwidth requirements which must be met to improve streaming quality.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/212232-dstv-now-streaming-coming-to-more-customers.html\">DStv Now streaming coming to more customers<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MultiChoice\u2019s Graeme Cumming said DStv Now HD streaming is imminent, and that they will focus on sports channels first.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":131786,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[85,27627,35,475],"class_list":["post-217584","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-broadcasting","tag-dstv","tag-dstv-now","tag-headline","tag-multichoice"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/217584"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=217584"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/217584\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":217586,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/217584\/revisions\/217586"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/131786"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=217584"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=217584"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=217584"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
