{"id":217628,"date":"2017-06-30T09:44:43","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T07:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=217628"},"modified":"2017-06-30T09:46:53","modified_gmt":"2017-06-30T07:46:53","slug":"zte-doubling-5g-rd-spending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/217628-zte-doubling-5g-rd-spending.html","title":{"rendered":"ZTE doubling 5G R&#038;D spending"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ZTE said it will double its research spending on 5G technology from 2017, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-zte-5g-idUSKBN19L0BX\">Reuters reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>ZTE will invest\u00a0\u00a52 billion (R3.8 billion) in 5G research and development, up from the\u00a0\u00a51 billion it invested last year.<\/p>\n<p>China is pushing to build the world&#8217;s largest 5G network and aims to roll out by 2020, so the budget could increase.<\/p>\n<p>A paper from China&#8217;s\u00a0Ministry of Industry and Information Technology forecast that the country&#8217;s cumulative\u00a0capital spending on 5G is expected to rise to \u00a51.65 trillion by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Companies such as ZTE and Huawei are expected to be major beneficiaries of China&#8217;s investment in the technology.<\/p>\n<p>China Mobile started field tests of China&#8217;s first 5G base station in Guangzhou last week.
