{"id":217644,"date":"2017-06-30T14:58:40","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T12:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=217644"},"modified":"2017-06-30T15:00:57","modified_gmt":"2017-06-30T13:00:57","slug":"vodacom-nailed-for-expiring-double-data-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/217644-vodacom-nailed-for-expiring-double-data-claim.html","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom nailed for expiring double data claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) has ruled that Vodacom must withdraw its \u201cdouble data\u201d advertising, following a complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The Vodacom advertisement stated that &#8220;you get double the data when you buy data on the My Vodacom app\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A consumer complaint was lodged against the advertisement, as the \u201cdouble data\u201d lasts for seven days, while the purchased data bundle lasts for 60 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis discrepancy is not mentioned, meaning the advertising creates a false expectation of receiving double the amount purchased, when in reality the additional portion only lasts for a week,\u201d said the consumer.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom responded, saying the advertisement states terms and conditions apply, and that a reasonable listener would visit its website to familiarise himself with the offer prior to committing to purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom&#8217;s terms on the product state:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Customers who purchase a Mobile Internet Once-Off bundle through the My Vodacom app will qualify for an additional Mobile Internet data bundle of the same value allocated to their account and no extra cost to the customer.
