{"id":219854,"date":"2017-07-15T11:16:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-15T09:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=219854"},"modified":"2017-07-15T11:17:06","modified_gmt":"2017-07-15T09:17:06","slug":"google-wants-users-off-sms-2-step-verification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/219854-google-wants-users-off-sms-2-step-verification.html","title":{"rendered":"Google wants users off SMS 2-Step Verification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com\/2017\/07\/better-experience-for-sms-2-step-verification.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Google will start prompting<\/strong><\/a>\u00a02-Step Verification SMS users to try\u00a0Google prompt when they sign in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In addition to offering 2-SV over an encrypted connection, Google prompt allows users to block unauthorised access to their account with real-time security information about the login attempt,&#8221; said Google.<\/p>\n<p>From next week, Google will start inviting users to try Google prompts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The invitation will give users a way to preview the new Google prompts sign in flow instead of SMS.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Google said\u00a0SMS text message verifications and one-time codes are more susceptible to phishing attempts by attackers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By relying on account authentication instead of SMS, administrators can be sure that their mobile policies will be enforced on the device and authentication is happening through an encrypted connection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The notifications to test Google prompts will only be shown to 2-SV SMS users.
