Intel has accused Qualcomm of trying to kill competition in the mobile chip manufacturing space with its monopoly position, CNET reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The allegation comes via a public statement that Intel made to the US\u00a0International Trade Commission.<\/p>\n

Its case is specifically about Qualcomm trying to kill competition from Intel, it said, claiming that it is the chip giant’s only remaining competitor in the market for mobile phone processors.<\/p>\n

Referring to Qualcomm’s legal action against Apple<\/a><\/strong>, Intel said that the lawsuit was not really about stopping the alleged infringement of Qualcomm’s patent rights.<\/p>\n

“Rather, its complaint is a transparent effort to stave off lawful competition from Qualcomm’s only remaining rival,” Intel said.<\/p>\n

“This twisted use of the Commission’s process is just the latest in a long line of anticompetitive strategies that Qualcomm has used to quash incipient and potential competitors and avoid competition on the merits.”<\/p>\n

Apple and Qualcomm have been fighting over patents since January when the iPhone maker filed a lawsuit in the United States claiming that Qualcomm didn’t give fair licensing terms for its technology.<\/p>\n

Qualcomm brought a counter-suit against Apple, saying that it deliberately crippled its chips in the iPhone\u00a0so they would not perform better than Intel processors.<\/p>\n

This resulted in\u00a0Apple withholding payments from its contract manufacturers for the royalties they owe under their licences with Qualcomm.<\/p>\n

Intel said that Qualcomm forces\u00a0equipment manufacturers to pay exorbitant royalties for every device they sell, regardless of whether it contains a Qualcomm chip.<\/p>\n

Any disagreement, and Qualcomm threatens to cut off the equipment maker’s supply of chips, Intel said.<\/p>\n
