{"id":223700,"date":"2017-08-08T10:43:58","date_gmt":"2017-08-08T08:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=223700"},"modified":"2017-08-08T10:45:36","modified_gmt":"2017-08-08T08:45:36","slug":"android-8-updates-will-download-even-when-your-storage-is-full","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/223700-android-8-updates-will-download-even-when-your-storage-is-full.html","title":{"rendered":"Android 8 updates will download even when your storage is full"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The next version of Android will allow users to update their OS even if the storage on their device is full, according to a report by <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2017\/08\/android-8-0s-streaming-os-updates-will-work-even-if-your-phone-is-full\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ars Technica<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/source.android.com\/devices\/tech\/ota\/ab_updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Android documentation<\/strong><\/a> shows that Google has worked in a system which eliminates the\u00a0&#8220;insufficient space&#8221; error.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that Google will update Android&#8217;s\u00a0Seamless Updates dual-system partition scheme with a\u00a0&#8220;streaming updates&#8221; feature.<\/p>\n<p>Update data will arrive to an offline system partition in a ready-to-boot state, and user storage will be bypassed &#8211; barring a few kilobytes for metadata.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Streaming A\/B updates need almost no temporary storage and need just enough for roughly 100KiB of metadata,&#8221; said Google.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Customers can continue to use their devices during an OTA.
