{"id":226791,"date":"2017-08-29T17:29:15","date_gmt":"2017-08-29T15:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=226791"},"modified":"2017-08-29T17:30:39","modified_gmt":"2017-08-29T15:30:39","slug":"google-pulls-apps-linked-to-wirex-botnet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/226791-google-pulls-apps-linked-to-wirex-botnet.html","title":{"rendered":"Google pulls apps linked to WireX botnet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tech organisations recently cooperated to stop a DDoS attack from the WireX botnet, which took place\u00a0on 17 August.<\/p>\n<p>Akamai, Cloudflare, Flashpoint, and RiskIQ released a report about the attack, revealing that the WireX botnet aimed attacks at several content delivery networks &#8211; drawing the attention of researchers from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from Akamai, Cloudflare, Flashpoint, Google, Oracle Dyn, RiskIQ, Team Cymru, and other organisations then cooperated to combat the botnet.<\/p>\n<p>The WireX botnet comprises primarily Android devices running malicious apps, and is designed to create DDoS traffic.
