Facebook is strengthening its policies and tools to better fight hate ads and prevent hateful terms being offered as ad targeting options.<\/p>\n

The announcement follows a report by ProPublica about Facebook enabling advertisers to target groups with terms like \u201cJew hater\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last week, Facebook temporarily disabled certain ads tools as slurs and offensive language could be used as targeting criteria.<\/p>\n

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said<\/strong><\/a> the social media platform will:<\/p>\n

  1. Clarify their advertising policies and tighten their enforcement processes to ensure content that breaches community standards cannot be used to target ads.<\/li>\n
  2. Add more human review and oversight to automated processes.<\/li>\n
  3. Encourage people on Facebook to report potential abuses of its ads system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u201cWe hope these changes will prevent abuses like this going forward,\u201d said Sandberg.<\/p>\n
