{"id":232235,"date":"2017-10-07T09:24:18","date_gmt":"2017-10-07T07:24:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=232235"},"modified":"2017-10-07T09:26:24","modified_gmt":"2017-10-07T07:26:24","slug":"disqus-discovers-large-database-hack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/232235-disqus-discovers-large-database-hack.html","title":{"rendered":"Disqus discovers large database hack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Disqus has <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.disqus.com\/security-alert-user-info-breach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>released a statement<\/strong><\/a> on a\u00a0security breach which took place in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While we are still investigating the incident&#8230; we know that a snapshot of our user database from 2012, including information dating back to 2007, was exposed,&#8221; said Disqus.<\/p>\n<p>This includes email addresses, Disqus user names, sign-up dates, and last login dates in plain text for 17.5 million users.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Additionally, passwords (hashed using SHA1 with a salt; not in plain text) for about one-third of users are included.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Disqus said\u00a0there isn\u2019t any evidence of unauthorised logins occurring in relation to this.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a security precaution, we have reset the passwords for all affected users.
