{"id":234770,"date":"2017-10-31T14:59:06","date_gmt":"2017-10-31T12:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=234770"},"modified":"2017-10-31T15:02:50","modified_gmt":"2017-10-31T13:02:50","slug":"amds-new-ryzen-mobile-chips-could-overthrow-intel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/234770-amds-new-ryzen-mobile-chips-could-overthrow-intel.html","title":{"rendered":"AMD&#8217;s new Ryzen Mobile chips could overthrow Intel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AMD has launched its first mobile chips based on its Zen architecture, and they could be a threat to Intel&#8217;s grip on the notebook market.<\/p>\n<p>AMD&#8217;s previous mobile processors were traditionally unable to compete well against Intel&#8217;s products, due to Intel&#8217;s superior integrated graphics and better performance-per-watt.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer&#8217;s new CPU and GPU architectures have allowed it to launch a powerful and competitive chip, however, giving it a chance to play in the notebook space.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Architecture<\/h3>\n<p>The key to AMD&#8217;s return to the mobile processor market is its new Ryzen processors built on its Zen CPU architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Ryzen Mobile chips will deliver increased performance and power efficiency compared to previous CPU generations, along with an increased core count.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside this improved mobile CPU, AMD will also leverage its Vega graphics architecture to include integrated graphics on the mobile chips.<\/p>\n<p>Code-named &#8220;Raven Ridge&#8221;, the chips will allow AMD to compete against Intel in graphics and general computing for mobile systems.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Performance<\/h3>\n<p>AMD press information published by <a href=\"https:\/\/videocardz.com\/73702\/amd-launches-ryzen-mobile-7-2700u-5-2500u-with-vega-graphics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>VideoCardz<\/strong><\/a> outlines the performance of the new chips relative to Intel&#8217;s 8th-gen mobile processors.<\/p>\n<p>The AMD Ryzen 5 2500U and Ryzen 7 2700U mobile APUs aim to compete with Intel&#8217;s Core i7 lineup, with the\u00a0Ryzen 7 2700U boasting competitive CPU performance across multiple benchmarks.<\/p>\n<p>The 7 2700U reportedly performed well in tests, and will complete against the Intel Core i7-8550U.<\/p>\n<p>According the data, AMD&#8217;s chip easily beats Intel&#8217;s when it comes to graphics processing performance.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that the Ryzen 7 2700U should deliver the CPU performance of an Intel Core i7-8550U, and more GPU processing power than an Nvidia GeForce 950M.<\/p>\n<p>The performance benchmarks are shown below.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">CPU benchmarks<\/h3>\n<div class=\"mybb_table\">\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"width: 100%;\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"7\">\n<thead>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #003366;
