{"id":234830,"date":"2017-10-27T08:32:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-27T06:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=234830"},"modified":"2017-10-27T08:35:26","modified_gmt":"2017-10-27T06:35:26","slug":"ai-breaks-captcha-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/234830-ai-breaks-captcha-security.html","title":{"rendered":"AI breaks CAPTCHA security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vicarious AI has published a paper on how it broke CAPTCHA with a specialised AI, reported\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/science\/2017\/10\/inspired-by-brains-visual-cortex-new-ai-utterly-wrecks-captcha-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ars Technica<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The AI can also perform general text recognition, and is able to do so with minimal training.<\/p>\n<p>The company used\u00a0what it learnt from studying how the mammalian visual cortex works to model its AI.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed a\u00a0Recursive Cortical Network, the team trained their neural network on the Georgia font &#8211; showing it\u00a0five examples of partial rotations for all the upper and lower-case letters.<\/p>\n<p>This training allowed the network to achieve a 94%\u00a0letter recognition accuracy and solve reCAPTCHAs 67% of the time.<\/p>\n<p>Human accuracy is\u00a087%.
