{"id":235744,"date":"2017-11-02T14:18:19","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T12:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=235744"},"modified":"2017-11-02T14:20:21","modified_gmt":"2017-11-02T12:20:21","slug":"8-truths-about-employee-passwords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/235744-8-truths-about-employee-passwords.html","title":{"rendered":"8 truths about employee passwords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LastPass has released <a href=\"https:\/\/lp-cdn.lastpass.com\/lporcamedia\/document-library\/lastpass\/pdf\/en\/LastPass-Enterprise-The-Password-Expose-Ebook-v2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Password Expos\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0report, highlighting the challenges of using passwords in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the standard approach to password security in the workplace has failed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven worse, businesses aren\u2019t responding to that failure quickly enough,\u201d said LastPass.<\/p>\n<p>LastPass said that for most people, the fear of forgetting a password far outweighs the &#8220;remote risk&#8221; of getting hacked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSolving the password problem impacts security, productivity, and even employee satisfaction in the workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LastPass report lists &#8220;8 truths&#8221; about employee passwords:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Passwords are everyone\u2019s problem.<\/li>\n<li>Employees are overwhelmed by passwords.<\/li>\n<li>Passwords are a compounding problem.<\/li>\n<li>Employees are constantly logging in.<\/li>\n<li>Approved or not, password sharing is common.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s a blurry line between personal and business passwords.<\/li>\n<li>Single sign-on is not a one-stop solution for passwords.<\/li>\n<li>Not enough businesses are using multi-factor authentication.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>According to LastPass, companies need to build a better framework for password visibility and control.
