{"id":241540,"date":"2017-12-11T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T06:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=241540"},"modified":"2017-12-11T08:02:32","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T06:02:32","slug":"keylogger-found-in-hp-laptop-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/241540-keylogger-found-in-hp-laptop-drivers.html","title":{"rendered":"Keylogger found in HP laptop drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A security researcher has <a href=\"https:\/\/zwclose.github.io\/HP-keylogger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>discovered a keylogger<\/strong><\/a> which ships installed on certain HP laptops.<\/p>\n<p>The keylogger is embedded in the SynTP.sys file, which is a component of the Synaptics touchpad driver in HP laptops.<\/p>\n<p>Over 460 HP notebooks are affected by the vulnerability, which allows hackers to log a user&#8217;s keystrokes by changing a registry value.<\/p>\n<p>HP has acknowledged the issue and released a patch to fix the vulnerability.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A party would need administrative privileges in order to take advantage of the vulnerability.
