{"id":248805,"date":"2018-02-15T09:55:21","date_gmt":"2018-02-15T07:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=248805"},"modified":"2018-02-15T09:57:06","modified_gmt":"2018-02-15T07:57:06","slug":"chromes-new-ad-blocking-explained","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/248805-chromes-new-ad-blocking-explained.html","title":{"rendered":"Chrome&#8217;s new ad-blocking explained"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chrome\u2019s mission to <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/213692-google-chrome-ad-filter-launching-in-2018.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>improve advertising<\/strong><\/a> on the web by blocking intrusive ads, like pop-ups and interstitial ads, will kick off today.<\/p>\n<p>Chrome will <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.chromium.org\/2018\/02\/how-chromes-ad-filtering-works.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>tackle the problem<\/strong><\/a> of disruptive advertising by removing ads from sites that do not follow the Better Ads Standards.<\/p>\n<p>The Better Ads Standards are the result of public consumer research by the Coalition for Better Ads.<\/p>\n<p>The most intrusive ad experiences include prestitial ads &#8211; such as those for JavaScript or images &#8211; are checked against a list of known ad-related URL patterns.<\/p>\n<p>If there is a match, Chrome will block the request, preventing the ad from displaying.<\/p>\n<p>This set of patterns is based on the public EasyList filter rules and includes patterns matching many ad providers &#8211;
