{"id":252811,"date":"2018-03-19T08:27:05","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T06:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=252811"},"modified":"2018-03-19T08:28:53","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T06:28:53","slug":"second-level-za-domain-names-really-bad-timing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/252811-second-level-za-domain-names-really-bad-timing.html","title":{"rendered":"Second level .za domain names &#8211;  &#8220;Really bad timing&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0ZA Domain Name Authority&#8217;s (ZADNA) discussion document on <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/252247-second-level-za-domain-names-considered-for-south-africa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>second level domain names<\/strong><\/a> is &#8220;exceptionally ill-timed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the\u00a0ZA Central Registry (ZACR), following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zadna.org.za\/uploads\/files\/ZA_Second_Level_Registrations_Pub_Discussion_Doc_12Feb2018_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ZADNA publishing the discussion document.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;SA\u2019s ICT sector is in a state of flux, with important documents currently before Parliament that include the ICT Sector Commission and Tribunal Bill,&#8221; said the ZACR.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This makes last month\u2019s publishing by ZADNA&#8230; especially ill-timed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ZACR said a rushed discussion around the complex domain name industry threatens its &#8220;highly-effective central registry model&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe support in principle the ability to register new domain names immediately below the top level domain.
