{"id":253641,"date":"2018-03-26T10:57:50","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T08:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=253641"},"modified":"2018-03-26T11:00:43","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T09:00:43","slug":"mweb-blunders-on-lte-a-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/253641-mweb-blunders-on-lte-a-claim.html","title":{"rendered":"MWEB blunders on LTE-A claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MWEB has decided to withdraw a claim that the Huawei B315 router offers LTE-A capabilities, following an Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) complaint.<\/p>\n<p>MWEB promoted the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.huawei.com\/en\/smart-home\/b315\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Huawei B315 router as an LTE-A product<\/strong><\/a>, despite the fact that it only offers LTE, as part of its LTE service offering.<\/p>\n<p>The Huawei website clearly states the B315 is an LTE router, which supports LTE category 4 connections of up to 150Mbps.<\/p>\n<p>LTE-Advanced, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_devices_with_LTE_Advanced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>which is a category 6 or above<\/strong><\/a> high-speed version of LTE, offers higher speeds than standard LTE.<\/p>\n<p>This technical bunder resulted in the complaint to the ASA.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant argued that the advertising was misleading, as \u201cthe router purchased does not support LTE-Advanced but only LTE\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of admitting its mistake, MWEB said it does not believe its advertising &#8211; which called the LTE router an LTE-A device &#8211; was misleading.<\/p>\n<p>However, it took the decision to \u201csimply use the terms LTE instead of LTE-A going forward\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>MWEB said the change will &#8220;avoid frustrating and confusing its consumers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The ASA accepted MWEB\u2019s undertaking to withdraw its LTE-A claim, on the condition that the material is not used again.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadband\/247598-mweb-uncapped-advert-now-includes-throttling-info.html\">MWEB uncapped advert now includes throttling info<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MWEB has tried to defend a claim regarding an &#8220;LTE-A&#8221; router, but ultimately decided to withdraw it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":143108,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[35,2490,27659,213],"class_list":["post-253641","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-hardware","tag-headline","tag-lte","tag-lte-a","tag-mweb"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/253641"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=253641"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/253641\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":253665,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/253641\/revisions\/253665"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/143108"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=253641"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=253641"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=253641"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
