{"id":255885,"date":"2018-04-13T09:33:10","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T07:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=255885"},"modified":"2018-04-13T09:34:24","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T07:34:24","slug":"windows-defender-flags-utorrent-as-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/255885-windows-defender-flags-utorrent-as-threat.html","title":{"rendered":"Windows Defender flags uTorrent as threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Windows Defender and other anti-virus applications flagged the uTorrent BitTorrent client as &#8220;potentially unwanted software&#8221; this week, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/utorrent-flagged-as-threat-by-microsoft-and-anti-virus-vendors-180312\/\">TorrentFreak reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>BitTorrent regarded the warnings as false positives, but stopped offering a version of the software for download.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for the issue has not been confirmed, but TorrentFreak speculated it may be related to Lavasoft&#8217;s Ad-Aware.<\/p>\n<p>BitTorrent said it believes Windows Defender&#8217;s previous passive flag of uTorrent changed to active with a Microsoft &#8220;patch Tuesday&#8221; update.<\/p>\n<p>Only a small\u00a0percentage of users are affected, said BitTorrent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had three uTorrent executables being served from our site. [One], which was going to 5% of users, was part of the Windows block.
