{"id":25753,"date":"2011-06-07T11:07:55","date_gmt":"2011-06-07T09:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=25753"},"modified":"2011-06-07T11:13:04","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T09:13:04","slug":"amazon-ec2-clear-about-liability-it-accepts-none","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/25753-amazon-ec2-clear-about-liability-it-accepts-none.html","title":{"rendered":"Amazon EC2 clear about liability: it accepts none"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking at the 2011 VMWare Forum held at Vodacom World on 7 June 2011, VMWare president and CEO Paul Maritz said that users need cloud service providers with service level agreements (SLA).<\/p>\n<p>Amazon&#8217;s EC2 cloud service recently experienced downtime which affected online services such as Reddit, and Maritz explained that if you were affected, the outage was \u201con your nickel, not Amazon&#8217;s\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Maritz joked that \u201cAmazon is very clear about how it handles liability &#8211; it accepts none.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that there are service providers willing to provide businesses with service level agreements.<\/p>\n<p>Fibre infrastructure operators around Europe and the US have put down data centres and are \u201cready to accept those loads,\u201d Maritz said.<\/p>\n<p>Maritz added that there is room in the market for multiple cloud providers. According to Maritz, all the world can&#8217;t be serviced by a single cloud and a single vendor.
