Makro today launched the Kindle 3 e-book reader at their Woodmead and Strubensvalley stores, with a country-wide roll-out planned for the end of the month.<\/p>\n

The Kindle is an e-book reader developed by Amazon subsidiary Lab126 allowing users to purchase, download and read e-books, newspapers, magazines and other digital media.<\/p>\n

The Kindle use an \u2018E Ink\u2019 electronic paper display that shows up to 16 shades of gray and simulates reading on paper.<\/p>\n

According to Amazon there are currently around 950 000 titles available on the Kindle store, with an average paperback selling at around R80.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to launch the Kindle in response to the amount of hype in the market around the brand,\u201d said Bruno Persic<\/a>, Merchandise Manager at Makro.<\/p>\n

Persic explained that they decided to launch the device in the week leading up to fathers day to cater for shoppers looking for a technology gift.<\/p>\n
