{"id":260815,"date":"2018-05-21T08:28:32","date_gmt":"2018-05-21T06:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=260815"},"modified":"2018-05-21T08:30:51","modified_gmt":"2018-05-21T06:30:51","slug":"google-removes-dont-be-evil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/260815-google-removes-dont-be-evil.html","title":{"rendered":"Google removes &#8220;Don\u2019t be evil&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google has removed its unofficial slogan \u201cDon\u2019t be evil\u201d from its code of conduct which it distributes to employees.<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s &#8220;Don&#8217;t be evil&#8221; motto has been with the company since around 2000.<\/p>\n<p>When Google restructured in October 2015, the new holding company Alphabet opted for &#8220;Do the right thing&#8221; as its motto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t be evil\u201d remained Google\u2019s motto in its code of conduct, but this has now disappeared.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/google-removes-nearly-all-mentions-of-dont-be-evil-from-1826153393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Gizmodo reported<\/strong><\/a> that the popular slogan was removed from the code of conduct somewhere between 21 April and 4 May this year.<\/p>\n<p>Here is Google\u2019s Code of Conduct <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180421105327\/https:\/\/abc.xyz\/investor\/other\/google-code-of-conduct.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>on 21 April 2018<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDon\u2019t be evil.\u201d Googlers generally apply those words to how we serve our users. But \u201cDon\u2019t be evil\u201d is much more than that. Yes, it\u2019s about providing our users unbiased access to information, focusing on their needs and giving them the best products and services that we can. But it\u2019s also about doing the right thing more generally \u2013 following the law, acting honorably, and treating co-workers with courtesy and respect.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is Google\u2019s Code of Conduct <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180504211806\/https:\/\/abc.xyz\/investor\/other\/google-code-of-conduct.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>on 4 May 2018<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Google Code of Conduct is one of the ways we put Google\u2019s values into practice. It\u2019s built around the recognition that everything we do in connection with our work at Google will be, and should be, measured against the highest possible standards of ethical business conduct.
