{"id":263713,"date":"2018-06-08T09:32:32","date_gmt":"2018-06-08T07:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=263713"},"modified":"2018-06-08T09:34:04","modified_gmt":"2018-06-08T07:34:04","slug":"google-bans-its-ai-tech-in-weapons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/263713-google-bans-its-ai-tech-in-weapons.html","title":{"rendered":"Google bans its AI tech in weapons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google has banned the use of its artificial intelligence technology in weapons or surveillance violating internationally-accepted norms, said CEO Sundar Pichai\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/topics\/ai\/ai-principles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a blog post.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This follows a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/260105-google-employees-resigning-due-to-pentagon-drone-contract-report.html\">revolt<\/a><\/strong> from employees who resigned in protest over the company&#8217;s partnership with the Pentagon for Project Maven.<\/p>\n<p>Project Maven aimed to speed up the analysis of drone footage by automatically classifying images of objects and people.<\/p>\n<p>Employees who resigned raised ethical questions about using artificial intelligence in drone warfare.<\/p>\n<p>While Google has stated it will not use its technology in the development of weapons, Pichai said they will continue to work with governments on other projects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These include cybersecurity, training, military recruitment, veterans&#8217; healthcare, and search and rescue.
