refers to the number of times a chip can compute a given hash function every second, which equates to the mining performance of the hardware in many cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>Cryptocurrencies are built on cryptographic hash functions, which are the same type of algorithms used to securely encrypt passwords.<\/p>\n<p>This means that the hashing power of your graphics could theoretically be used for cracking passwords.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Password hacking<\/h3>\n<p>Hash functions like SHA-256 (used by Bitcoin and many password encryption tools) are notoriously difficult to crack, especially if the attacker is using brute force attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Password hashes can use a variety of hash functions, from the older SHA-1 and MD5 algorithms to more resilient but computationally-expensive functions like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npmjs.com\/package\/bcrypt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bcrypt<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While the method of encryption can have a great influence on the difficulty of password cracking, important factors also include the length of the password.<\/p>\n<p>As the number of characters in the password increases, the time to crack it increases exponentially.<\/p>\n<p>Hardware is also an important factor, as you would struggle to crack even the simplest hashed passwords with a five-year old CPU &#8211; including MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2, and WPA.<\/p>\n<p>There are no official GPU benchmarks available for the Hashcat software, but there are various user tests which outline graphics card performance across various hashing algorithms.<\/p>\n<p>The version of the software used varies across these tests, along with the clock speed and model of graphics card used, leading to variations in hashing power between most benchmarks results.<\/p>\n<p>However, these figures portray a general indication of each graphics card&#8217;s hashing performance.<\/p>\n<p>The Hashcat benchmark results for modern graphics cards conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/tutorials.technology\/blog\/08-Hashcat-GPU-benchmarking-table-Nvidia-and-amd.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Tutorials Technology<\/strong><\/a> for the WPA\/WPA2 security algorithms are shown below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mybb_table\">\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"width: 100%;\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"7\">\n<thead>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #003366;
