{"id":265823,"date":"2018-06-30T07:06:42","date_gmt":"2018-06-30T05:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=265823"},"modified":"2018-06-30T07:09:02","modified_gmt":"2018-06-30T05:09:02","slug":"why-luno-uses-amazon-web-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cloud-hosting\/265823-why-luno-uses-amazon-web-services.html","title":{"rendered":"Why Luno uses Amazon Web Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Luno selected Amazon Web Services for its cloud infrastructure as it allowed the company to easily scale its systems to keep pace with the growth of its customer base and traffic, CTO Timothy Stranex has told MyBroadband.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can very quickly spin up additional servers and access virtually unlimited storage,\u201d said Stranex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity is a major consideration for our business and the AWS platform provides a solid, secure, and reliable base for us to build on,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Luno is a cryptocurrency exchange and wallet provider with rand support, which employs over 250 people and operates in over 40 countries.<\/p>\n<p>Its head offices are in Cape Town, Singapore, and London, and it has almost two million customers around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The company felt the benefits, and pressure, of the rush to buy cryptocurrency in 2017, and thanks to its robust systems has been able to process payments of almost R62 billion to date.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Luno\u2019s technology stack<\/h3>\n<p>Looking more in-depth at Luno&#8217;s operations, Stranex said all their backend services are built using the Go programming language.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe use a microservice architecture and the services communicate using gRPC. We use MySQL for our primary databases,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On the client side, Luno\u2019s apps are natively built for Android and iOS (Swift), and its web app is written in TypeScript and Angular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur production environment runs on Amazon Web Services. Our microservices are run using Docker containers.
