{"id":26613,"date":"2011-06-13T13:55:06","date_gmt":"2011-06-13T11:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=26613"},"modified":"2011-06-13T14:52:12","modified_gmt":"2011-06-13T12:52:12","slug":"mtn-data-centre-issue-causes-website-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cloud-hosting\/26613-mtn-data-centre-issue-causes-website-woes.html","title":{"rendered":"MTN data centre issue causes website woes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today (13 June 2011) users hosting in the MTN Data Centres (DCs) reported seeing latencies as high as 700ms to their servers.<\/p>\n<p>Sites such as Ster Kinekor and MyBroadband were affected by the problem.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a title=\"Hetzner MTN Business network status notice 10h00 13 June 2011\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hetzner.co.za\/helpcentre\/index.php\/network-notices\/details\/1753\/\">network status notice from Hetzner<\/a>, a hosting provider that makes use of the MTN Business data centres, the problem affected MTN Business data centres 1 and 2 in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>Hetzner reported that connectivity to services hosted in the Johannesburg centres may be subject to network degradation due to high latency on MTN Business network.<\/p>\n<p>MTN Business engineers are attending to the problem, Hetzner&#8217;s notice said.<\/p>\n<p>The below graph provided by Neology shows that pings to the MyBroadband server steadily increased from about 08h30 this morning, peaking at around 11h40, but now seem to be decreasing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26617\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-26617\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hosting-storage\/26613-mtn-data-centre-issue-causes-website-woes.html\/attachment\/neology-mybroadband-ping-graph-13-june-2011-13h35\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26617\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26617\" title=\"Neology MyBroadband ping graph - 13 June 2011 13h35\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Neology-MyBroadband-ping-graph-13-June-2011-13h35.jpg\" alt=\"Neology MyBroadband ping graph - 13 June 2011 13h35\" width=\"600\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Neology-MyBroadband-ping-graph-13-June-2011-13h35.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Neology-MyBroadband-ping-graph-13-June-2011-13h35-100x44.jpg 100w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Neology-MyBroadband-ping-graph-13-June-2011-13h35-185x82.jpg 185w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Network latency to MyBroadband server in MTN Business DC<\/p><\/div>\n<p>MTN was not able to immediately provide details as to the cause of the problem at the time of publication.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update<\/em>: MTN Business provided feedback on the issues affecting the data centre at 14h30.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The MTN Business Network Operations Centre is aware of the problem being experienced by certain sites hosted in the Gallo Manor data centre. An increase in latency is currently being experienced on a particular segment within the data centre and is due to excessive traffic being generated across that segment by specific customer servers, possibly due to system malfunction, denial of service attack or compromise.
