Inspector Michael Read said the counterfeit goods were found in a store room at Chinatown in West Street on Thursday.<\/p>\n
This comes exactly a week after police arrested a 24-year-old man in Durban for possession of R300,000 worth of pirated dvd's.<\/p>\n
Officers of the Commercial Crime Unit were conducting a routine inspection when they came across a locked store room on Chinatown's third floor.<\/p>\n
"The room was opened and police found counterfeit dvd's, cd's and tapes to the value of R1 million," said Read.<\/p>\n
Police had established the identity of the owner of the store room and an arrest was imminent.<\/p>\n
Last Friday, police arrested a man in another store room in Durban's Wills Street. The man was caught in the process of copying dvd's on his computer and was arrested.<\/p>\n
"He was found with R300,000 worth of pirated dvd's in his possession," Read said at the time.<\/p>\n
The man also had of list of customers who had bought dvd's from him. The document contained their names, addresses and contact numbers.<\/p>\n
Police were using the list to make more arrests. Similar police operations were being intensified in the city, Read said.<\/p>\n
